Peru’s President José Jerry Ousted After Secret Meeting Scandal

Peru’s Congress impeached President José Jerry just four months into his term following revelations of secret meetings with a Chinese businessman. The decision was made after an official session and a vote by the representatives.

According to the voting results, 75 members of Congress voted in favor of his removal, 24 opposed, and three abstained. The vote came amid increasing political pressure and criticism over the president’s transparency.

Under Peru’s constitution, the head of Congress will temporarily assume the presidency until the general elections are held. The elections are scheduled for April 12.

With Jerry’s removal, he becomes the third consecutive president of Peru to be ousted from office, highlighting ongoing political instability in this Latin American country.
