Security Expert Warns of Threats to Iraq After Transfer of ISIS Prisoners from Syria

An Iraqi security expert has warned that the transfer of ISIS-affiliated individuals from Syria could pose new challenges to the country’s stability and security. He emphasized that the management of this issue and cooperation from other countries will play a decisive role in controlling these threats.
Hussein Al-Ibrahimi, an Iraqi security analyst, stated that Turkey has refused to accept 165 individuals accused of terrorist activities who hold Turkish citizenship. According to him, this action raises questions about the extent of cooperation between different countries and Iraq regarding the repatriation of their citizens involved in terrorist cases.
Al-Ibrahimi added that there are concerns about the reintegration of these individuals into society after serving their sentences. He believes that without proper monitoring and preventive measures, the likelihood of their returning to violent activities could represent a direct threat to Iraq’s stability.
The Iraqi analyst stressed the necessity of broad international cooperation on this matter and called for strict sentences against individuals accused of terrorism to prevent similar activities from recurring.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Laibi, spokesperson for Iraq’s Ministry of Justice, announced that the number of ISIS-affiliated prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq has reached 5,703 individuals from 61 countries. He said that 4,253 of these detainees are Arab and 983 are non-Arab; among them are 467 Iraqis and 3,543 Syrians.
