US Special Envoy: Two American Citizens Detained by Taliban Administration

Adam Bowler, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, has announced that two American citizens are currently being held in custody by the Taliban administration, describing the act as “unacceptable.” Bowler wrote on his official X social media account that the Taliban must end “all forms of hostage-taking.” Without providing further details about the identity or location of the detainees, he called for their release. As of this report, the Taliban administration has not responded to the claims of detaining two American citizens or to the US official’s statements. The detention of foreign nationals by the Taliban in recent years has consistently raised international concerns, with human rights organizations repeatedly warning against the political instrumentalization of foreign prisoners. However, the Taliban administration has yet to provide a clear explanation regarding the legal framework and procedures governing such cases.
