16.4 Million People in Afghanistan Receive Humanitarian Aid in 2025, UN OCHA Reports

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that in 2025, approximately 16.4 million people in Afghanistan received humanitarian assistance supported by the organization’s partner agencies. Despite this aid, OCHA stated that the gap between urgent needs and available resources remains significant.

According to the report published on Thursday, 12 February, about 61 percent of aid recipients received food assistance. This figure highlights that food insecurity remains one of the biggest challenges in many parts of the country, with a large number of residents relying on external aid to meet their basic needs.

OCHA noted that the 2025 aid efforts have been funded through $870 million in new budgets alongside remaining resources from 2024. However, out of the total $2.42 billion required to address the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, $1.55 billion still remains unfunded.

The agency emphasized that the current funding covers only one-third of the urgent needs of the Afghan people. The continuation of this situation, coupled with existing restrictions and structural challenges under Taliban rule, has raised concerns about the persistence of the humanitarian crisis and the difficulties citizens face in accessing basic services.
