Taliban Ministry and ILO Discuss Employment and Workers’ Rights in Afghanistan

The Deputy of Labor Affairs at the Taliban’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs met with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to discuss expanding labor relations, creating job opportunities, and protecting the rights of workers and employees in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai emphasized that the ministry strives to take effective steps in the labor and employment sector in coordination with partner institutions, within the framework of national and international standards. These remarks come as Afghanistan’s labor market faces significant challenges, including unemployment and the absence of transparent support mechanisms.
According to official sources, both parties stressed the continuation of communication, regular coordination, and holding joint meetings, and agreed to undertake practical joint actions to strengthen cooperation.
Observers say that fulfilling these commitments in practice, particularly regarding the protection of workers’ rights, requires transparency, accountability, and the Taliban administration’s adherence to labor commitments—issues consistently demanded by labor organizations and international bodies.
