Construction Begins on Second Phase of Baraki Overpass in Kabul to Ease Traffic

The Kabul Municipality has announced the commencement of construction on the second phase of the Baraki Overpass in Kabul. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in one of the capital’s busiest areas.
According to Nematullah Barkazi, a representative of the Kabul Municipality, the second phase of the bridge will feature 440 pillars, span 700 meters in length, and connect the Second Parwan Intersection to the Dehn-e-Bagh area. He added that construction work on this phase has officially entered the active implementation stage.
Barkazi also explained that the first phase of the overpass, which includes underground roads, is 470 meters long with 525 pillars and has reached approximately 75 percent completion. He stated that once finished, this section will play a crucial role in managing traffic flow.
According to information from the Kabul Municipality, the Baraki Overpass is being constructed in two phases with a total budget of 1.5 billion Afghanis. City officials say the project could significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks in the area, although Kabul residents have consistently called for greater transparency and faster execution of public infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, the municipality also reported rapid progress on the overpass connecting the Kabul Provincial Office with Joy Shir, another key infrastructure development initiative in the city.
