Saudi Source Denies Axios Claims on Anti-Iranian Stance of Defense Minister
A senior Saudi official has denied a report by the American news outlet Axios regarding the anti-Iranian stance of Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister during his visit to the United States, stating that these claims do not reflect Riyadh’s official position.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the Saudi official emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s policy on regional developments remains unchanged, and the country continues to support diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching peaceful solutions between the United States and Iran to reduce tensions and enhance regional security and stability.
According to the source, Riyadh firmly opposes the use of its airspace or territory for any military action against Iran and remains committed to a policy of avoiding tension and prioritizing political solutions.
These clarifications come after Axios previously claimed that Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman made critical remarks against Iran in meetings held in the U.S. The Saudi official reiterated that Saudi Arabia has repeatedly stressed respect for countries’ sovereignty and avoidance of military actions that could have dangerous regional consequences, viewing political agreements and adherence to international laws as the solution to regional crises.
