Herat Health Officials Report 70% Reduction in Patient Referrals Abroad

Health officials in Herat have announced that, following the implementation of certain specialized procedures in the province’s medical centers, the need for approximately seventy percent of patients to seek treatment abroad has been prevented.

According to these officials, in the past, many patients were forced to travel to neighboring countries due to the lack of specialized medical services. However, now part of this demand is being met within Herat itself.

They emphasized that the provision of diagnostic and specialized surgical facilities in government hospitals has played a significant role in reducing costs and difficulties for patients and their families.

Herat, one of the major provinces in western Afghanistan, has long faced complaints from its residents about the shortage of advanced medical services—a matter which experts believe requires sustained investment and serious attention from the Taliban administration toward the healthcare sector.
