Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on Canadian Goods Over Canada-China Trade Deal

Donald Trump, President of the United States, has warned that if the trade agreement between Canada and China is finalized, Washington will impose a 100% tariff on all goods imported from Canada.

On Saturday, January 24, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth that such a deal, in his view, would “completely swallow Canada” and would have serious consequences for businesses, the social fabric, and the way of life of the country’s residents.

These remarks come as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently traveled to China, aiming to ease the tense relations between Ottawa and Beijing and to create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
