Taliban Chief of Staff Meets Qatar Emir in Doha Amid DIMDEX 2026 Attendance

Qari Muhammad Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Taliban’s armed forces, traveled to Doha to participate in the International Defense and Maritime Exhibition DIMDEX 2026 and held meetings with senior Qatari officials on the sidelines of the event.
According to released information, on the first day of his visit, he had a brief meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. No further details about the content of this meeting have been disclosed.
One day later, the Taliban Chief of Staff met with General Jassim bin Mohammed Al Manaei, a senior military official in Qatar. During this meeting, both parties discussed bilateral cooperation and mutual relations, and symbolic gifts, including a commemorative plaque, were exchanged.
These meetings take place within the framework of Qatar’s pragmatic and cautious relations with Afghanistan; relations that began years ago, notably with Qatar hosting the Taliban’s political office in Doha. Qatar’s role also includes facilitating past talks with the United States and continuing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
