Bernie Sanders, a prominent US senator, has sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s order for a military strike on Venezuela, warning that the move will further undermine global stability.
According to Al Jazeera, Sanders stated that Trump engaged the United States in a military conflict without consulting or obtaining approval from Congress; an action he considers a clear violation of the legal frameworks governing US foreign policy.
The American senator emphasized that Washington’s move against Caracas not only complicates Venezuela’s crisis but also revives a dangerous imperialist mindset—one whose consequences could extend beyond Latin America to impact global security.
On Friday night, the United States attacked Venezuela, detaining the country’s president and his wife. Following this event, several countries condemned Washington’s action as a violation of the United Nations Charter and principles of international law.
While US officials have hinted at the possibility of broader attacks on Venezuela, the country’s vice president has declared that Caracas will resist the pressures and what he described as “American imperialism.”
