UN-Habitat’s ‘Cash for Work’ Program Supports Afghan Families Amid Economic Hardship

The ‘Cash for Work’ program by UN-Habitat in Afghanistan, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has helped several families meet their food needs without borrowing from neighbors after months of hardship.
According to UN-Habitat, this initiative not only provides a short-term source of income for participants but also contributes to the reconstruction and improvement of local infrastructure in various areas.
Social experts believe that in Afghanistan’s current severe economic conditions, such programs can play a crucial role in enhancing the resilience of local communities and reducing families’ dependence on loans and informal aid.
