Austria Pledges $1 Million to Support Afghan Return Programs

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that with a $1 million contribution from Austria, protective services and support programs for returning Afghans will be expanded this year.
According to UNHCR, this financial aid will be used to provide reintegration assistance to families intending to return to their home areas, ensuring their return is safe and upholds human dignity.
Afghanistan has experienced successive waves of return in recent years; a process that, amid insufficient services, widespread restrictions, and difficult living conditions—especially under Taliban rule—faces serious challenges and highlights the need for sustained international support.
Aid organizations have repeatedly warned that without improved access to essential services, security provision, and livelihood opportunities, sustainable and voluntary return will not be possible for many residents.
