UNICEF Sends 9 Containers of Aid Toward Torkham Amid Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions

According to Pakistani media reports, nine containers of United Nations humanitarian aid, designated for the residents of Afghanistan, have been transferred from the Jamrud terminal in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to the port of Torkham.
It is reported that these shipments include food supplies from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), intended to address the urgent needs of the Afghan people. Sources added that in the second phase, UNICEF medical aid, including medicines and healthcare equipment, will also be sent to Afghanistan.
Pakistani officials have stated that after receiving official permission from the Taliban administration, the clearance and customs processes for these containers will begin. According to them, customs officers at the Torkham port are fully prepared to facilitate the transit of UN shipments and, once final approval is granted, the aid will enter Afghanistan.
At the time of this report, the Taliban administration has not issued any official comment on the matter. The aid is being moved toward Torkham while all seven trade crossings, including Torkham, have been closed since October 11, 2025, due to recent tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a situation that has negatively impacted access to humanitarian assistance for the Afghan population.
