Four Large Cooking Oil Warehouses Sealed in Farah for Hoarding and Price Gouging

The Department of Information and Culture of Farah province has announced the closure of four large cooking oil warehouses in Farah city due to hoarding and selling at inflated prices, carried out by the Price Control and Anti-Hoarding Committee.
According to the department’s statement, the warehouse owners were offering cooking oil to shopkeepers at prices higher than the set official rates, disregarding the regulated price list. Committee members said this practice violates regulations and destabilizes the raw materials market.
The statement emphasized that no individual or organization has the right to stockpile food items for hoarding purposes or sell them against official prices. Officials added that market monitoring to control prices will continue with greater seriousness.
However, critics argue that temporary measures without transparency and a sustainable plan cannot prevent the recurrence of such incidents. They say the Taliban administration must establish clear and accountable mechanisms to regulate the market and support residents.
