Heavy Snowfall Blankets Nuristan Amid Drought Struggles in Afghanistan

Heavy snowfall in the mountainous Nuristan province has extensively covered the region in white amid Afghanistan’s ongoing battle with drought. For local residents and the agricultural sector, this snow is seen as a sign of replenished water resources and the potential for a fruitful year.
However, alongside these positive outcomes, the severe cold caused by the snowfall has made daily life more difficult for many families. The increased demand for heating equipment and fuel has added economic pressure on households already facing livelihood challenges.
At the same time, the snowy landscapes of Nuristan have attracted some domestic tourists. Yet, the lack of planning and effective support from the Taliban administration to manage winter consequences has raised concerns about people’s access to basic services, transportation routes, and winter aid.
