Russia Calls Blockade of Venezuela’s Coasts an Act of Aggression, Blames US
At an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in Venezuela, Russia’s representative condemned the blockade of the country’s coasts as a blatant act of aggression and held the United States directly responsible for its disastrous consequences.
Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s envoy, stated that this action by Washington is a clear example of unilateralism and disregard for international law. He added that despite the change of government in the United States, its policies toward Venezuela have continued unchanged, without any significant difference.
According to Nebenzya, the US attempts to justify its interference and pressure on a Latin American country under the pretext of combating terrorism, while the Venezuelan government is legitimate and Washington’s unilateral decisions cannot alter this reality.
During the same session, Samuel Moncada, Venezuela’s ambassador to the UN, warned that his country is just the initial target of a broader plan, and that the US is systematically pursuing pressure and aggression by sowing division. He described Washington’s efforts to justify its actions based on the rules of war as unacceptable.
Moncada emphasized that Venezuela will maintain its composure and resilience in defending peace and its sovereignty. He accused the US of irresponsible behavior, stating that it tries to portray itself as the only country exempt from the rule of law.
The Venezuelan ambassador called for exposing the information and propaganda campaigns used to justify pressure and aggression against Venezuela. He also warned that the continuation of escalating military actions could lead the region toward dangerous consequences.
In another part of the meeting, China’s ambassador to the UN declared that his country opposes any interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs and the imposition of illegal sanctions. He urged the US to respect maritime security and the rights of Caribbean countries and stressed the necessity for all nations to defend their national sovereignty.
