Taliban and Russia Discuss Joint Efforts to Combat Drug Trafficking

The Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior met with the Russian Federation’s ambassador in Kabul on Tuesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in preventing drug trafficking.

Abdulrahman Munir described drugs as a global problem during the meeting and called on the international community, particularly Russia, to collaborate with the Taliban administration in providing alternative livelihoods for farmers and in treating addicts.

Munir emphasized that effective efforts to combat drug cultivation and trafficking are not possible without creating sustainable economic options for rural residents and expanding treatment services for addicts.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador in Kabul, described the efforts and declared achievements of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior in the fight against drugs as unprecedented—a claim that, in the absence of independent and transparent assessments, remains subject to scrutiny and requires further investigation.
