Afghan Immigrants in U.S. Demand Transparency Over Washington Attack Case

Afghan immigrants living in the United States have called on American authorities to provide full transparency in the investigation of a recent attack in Washington, in which the suspect has been identified as an Afghan national.

Saber Naseri, head of the Afghanistan–U.S. Relations Office, stated that the current evidence is insufficient to confirm the attacker’s nationality, urging U.S. officials to present clear documentation. He also noted that he has not seen footage of the incident and has conducted his own inquiries at the scene to verify the claim.

According to Naseri, a lack of transparency in such cases can negatively impact the reputation and mental well-being of the Afghan immigrant community in the U.S. He stressed that American officials must avoid hasty judgments and refrain from generalizing the actions of an individual to an entire community.

Meanwhile, immigration rights advocates have warned that the thousands of Afghan refugees who fled to the U.S. after the Taliban takeover in search of safety should not face discrimination due to the actions of one person. These advocates have urged American institutions to uphold justice and protect the human rights and dignity of immigrants.

These calls come amid ongoing challenges faced by Afghan immigrants in the U.S., including issues related to residency, employment, and cultural integration. There are concerns that incidents like this could lead to renewed pressure on the community.
