Taliban Intelligence Chief Accuses ISIS of Expanding Security Threats via Social Media

Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence, criticized ISIS for using social media platforms to communicate, fundraise, and promote ideological views during the first specialized security dialogue of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ‘SCO Plus’ held in Samarkand.
According to Wasiq, ISIS exploits the non-cooperation of technology companies and the activities of Telegram and TikTok in Afghanistan. This lack of cooperation allows the group to expand its terrorist activities globally.
Wasiq also stated that despite the Taliban administration’s claims of combating ISIS, there are significant limitations in dismantling the technical infrastructure of the group.
He emphasized that ISIS causes many civilian casualties annually across various countries and remains one of the major security challenges in the region.
The meeting took place on November 5 and 6 in Samarkand, attended by representatives from 24 countries and five international organizations, discussing issues such as terrorism, extremism, and emerging security threats.
