UK-Afghanistan Trade Volume Drops 16.7% Over Past Year

According to the latest statistics from the UK Department of Trade, the bilateral trade volume between the UK and Afghanistan in the one-year period ending June 2024 reached £70 million, marking a 16.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. This reduction corresponds to a £14 million decline in trade volume between the two countries.
UK exports to Afghanistan during this period amounted to £57 million, representing an 18.6% decrease. Conversely, UK imports from Afghanistan fell by 7.1% to £13 million. Major UK export goods include beverages, spices, dairy products, vehicles, and industrial machinery.
On the other hand, Afghanistan’s exports to the UK are dominated by vegetables and fruits valued at £1.7 million; clothing and textile fabrics also constitute significant export items.
The report ranks Afghanistan 166th among the UK’s trading partners, with a share of less than 0.1% of the UK’s total trade. The sharp decline in trade volume may indicate existing economic challenges and limitations in the trade relations between the two countries.
