Afghanistan Under-18 Futsal Team on the Verge of Advancing to Youth Olympic World Cup Semifinals

The Afghanistan Under-18 national futsal team is set to face the host team Senegal on Saturday night, November 7, in their third and final group stage match of the Youth Olympic World Cup. The match will kick off at 10 pm Kabul time at the Dakar Arena stadium in Diamniadio.
Both teams currently hold three points, ranking second and third respectively in Group A. After Argentina’s defeat holding six points at the top, winning this match is critical for both teams to secure their place for advancement. A victory for Afghanistan in this game will guarantee their spot in the semifinals.
At present, Argentina leads the group while Panama remains at the bottom without any points. Since Panama can only achieve a maximum of three points, Afghanistan’s win against Senegal will confirm their position among the top two teams in the group.
Afghanistan and Senegal have shown contrasting performances in the tournament so far. Under the guidance of coach Behrouz Jafari, Afghanistan began their campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Panama but narrowly lost 2-1 to Argentina in their second game. In contrast, the host team Senegal suffered a heavy 9-2 defeat against Argentina but managed a close 5-4 win over Panama.
This edition of the tournament is being held from October 31 to November 12 in Dakar, Senegal’s capital, marking the second edition of the Youth Olympic Futsal World Cup. Afghanistan’s participation in the competition is the result of their recent successes in the Asian Bahrain tournaments and their direct qualification.
Afghanistan’s potential progression to the semifinals would be the best historical achievement for the country’s youth futsal team on the international stage and could represent a milestone in the nation’s sports history.
