Over 200 Arrested in Violent Protests Across Multiple German Cities

On Saturday evening, more than 200 people were arrested following violent clashes during demonstrations held under the slogan “Generation Z Organizes” in over 30 German cities. Tens of thousands of young protesters demanded increased education funding, lower living costs, and opposed the reinstatement of compulsory military service.

After initially peaceful gatherings, some protesters in Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Berlin launched attacks against security forces by creating street barricades and throwing stones and incendiary materials. Police responded by deploying water cannons to restore order.

In Frankfurt, a group of masked individuals attacked several stores, including a gun shop, stealing at least two firearms, which police later recovered. Over 30 people were arrested in the city.

Hamburg saw 120 arrests and 11 police officers injured. Reports also indicate that 56 people were detained in Berlin, with 27 officers wounded. Additionally, at least five individuals were arrested following clashes with police in Cologne.

By Sunday morning, the situation in the affected cities had largely calmed, with police investigations ongoing into the incidents and damages caused.
