Dutch Coast Guard Rescues 38 Afghan and Sudanese Migrants from Deadly Peril

The Dutch coast guard rescued 38 passengers from an engine-less inflatable boat off the southern coast of the Netherlands, most of whom were Afghans along with two Sudanese nationals. According to Dutch media reports, all the rescued Afghan migrants were men. Additionally, two Sudanese citizens were arrested on suspicion of involvement in human trafficking.

The migrants’ boat had become uncontrollable after its engine failed in Dutch coastal waters, drifting aimlessly until the coast guard found and rescued them. Dutch police have stated that the migration status of the Afghan nationals is under review to determine whether they intend to seek asylum in the country.

If these migrants do not meet the conditions for asylum, Dutch authorities will notify them that they must leave the country.
