Pakistan Opposition Leader Urges Respect for Afghanistan’s Sovereignty

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of Pakistan’s opposition, has called on his country’s government to abandon its previous policies centered on strategic depth in Afghanistan and to recognize Afghanistan’s independence and national sovereignty. He emphasized that for Pakistan to establish stable and positive relations with Afghanistan, it must abandon its former misconceptions about Kabul. The opposition leader also suggested that, to improve bilateral relations, key figures from both Kabul and Islamabad should come to the negotiating table to resolve outstanding issues.
