World Bank Reports Rising Poverty in Pakistan in 2024

The World Bank has announced that in 2024, 72.6 million people in Pakistan are living below the poverty line, indicating an increase in poverty over the past three years. The poverty rate in the country has now reached 29 percent.
According to the same report, approximately 57.6 million Pakistanis earn less than $3 per month, with rising prices, economic recession, and declining incomes cited as the main factors exacerbating the situation.
Previously, various international organizations had also reported on the rising poverty levels in Pakistan, pointing to the unprecedented fall in the value of the Pakistani rupee as one of the causes of the worsening economic crisis.
Meanwhile, residents of Pakistan have expressed dissatisfaction with the harsh economic conditions and the continuous rise in prices of goods, criticizing the government for its inability to control the economic situation.
Additionally, Pakistan’s commercial activities have been affected, with trade relations with neighboring countries such as Iran and Afghanistan experiencing delays and slowdowns.
