Taliban Authorities Approve Over Two Billion Afghanis Worth of Electricity Projects

In a recent meeting of the Taliban’s Procurement Commission, six electricity projects totaling more than 2.873 billion Afghanis were approved. These projects include the expansion of the 220-kilovolt Hesar Shahi power dam in Nangarhar province, the construction of a 40 megavolt-ampere power dam to supply energy to the gas factory in the Yatim Taq area of Jowzjan province, and the development of a 139.2-kilometer, 220-kilovolt transmission line from the Andkhoy power dam to the Maymana power dam.
Additionally, the projects cover the construction and expansion of power dams in Maymana and Andkhoy in Faryab province, the purchase of equipment for SDH and PABX systems, and the development of a 9.3-kilometer transmission line from the Arghandi-Ghazni 220-kilovolt transmission line to the planned Maydan Wardak power dam.
These decisions come amid ongoing challenges facing Afghanistan’s electricity infrastructure and energy transmission capabilities across large parts of the country. The electricity shortage continues to adversely affect daily life and economic development.
The Taliban authorities claim that these projects will help improve the energy situation in these provinces. However, given the widespread challenges, the real impact on people’s lives remains uncertain.
