Three Muslims Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in India for Cow Slaughter

A court in the Indian state of Gujarat has sentenced three Muslim nationals to life imprisonment for the slaughter of a cow and the sale of its meat, imposing a fine of 300,000 Indian rupees on each. The individuals were accused of slaughtering a cow primarily for profit inside a house on August 22, 2024, in the Gandhinagar area, and playing a role in preparing and selling its meat. The court highlighted the religious and cultural significance of cows in its ruling and found the accused guilty under Gujarat’s Animal Preservation Act. Meanwhile, two other accused in the same case were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Harsh Sanghavi, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, welcomed the verdict, though the decision has sparked widespread debate and reactions on social media.
