Israeli Police Deploy 22,000 Officers Ahead of Possible Post-Election Unrest

Israeli police are preparing for possible unrest after Tuesday’s general election results are announced and have decided to deploy 22,000 officers across the occupied territories. The number is about 5,000 more than the security deployment for the 2022 election.

According to i24NEWS and an unnamed senior police official, security measures have been stepped up amid a tight race between Benjamin Netanyahu’s alliance and the Israeli opposition. Preparations for this scenario began three months ago and include planning to deal with any unrest following exit polls, the announcement of results and the days after the election.

Police have also warned of the possibility of security attacks and public protests, stressing that the day after the election is just as sensitive as polling day. Security officials have also factored into their plans possibilities such as street gatherings following the election results and political party events.
