Taliban urges Afghan Red Crescent to expand humanitarian services

Taliban authorities have called on the Red Crescent community to expand humanitarian services.

Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the acting head of the Taliban administration, stressed the importance of providing sincere services while respecting human dignity in a message sent on the occasion of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society’s programmes. He asked the officials, staff and volunteers of the humanitarian organisation to strengthen public trust through selfless service.

In the message, the Taliban’s acting head of government also called on traders to increase their financial and moral support for Red Crescent programmes so that people in need, orphans, widows, the sick and victims of various incidents can benefit from these services.

The message was published as the Taliban administration continues to face challenges in managing humanitarian organisations, with growing calls for broader support for vulnerable groups. The Afghanistan Red Crescent Society is among the organisations active in helping those in need, but existing restrictions have affected its activities.

The Afghanistan Red Crescent has been working for years to reduce human suffering in different parts of the country, and given Afghanistan’s severe economic and social crisis, the role of the organisation in supporting those affected has become especially important.
