Russia Warns of Environmental Impact from Ukrainian Attacks on Black Sea Ships

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has warned of the environmental consequences of Ukrainian attacks on ships in the Black Sea, saying the strikes could threaten the region’s ecosystems.
Sergei Kononchenko, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special representative for climate issues, told RIA Novosti that Western countries were not reacting to these consequences because, in his view, “anything is acceptable” in the fight against Russia.
He added that the silence of Western countries was “understandable” from Moscow’s perspective and claimed that, in efforts to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia, no attention is being paid to the ecosystems of the Black Sea.
The comments come as the war in Ukraine has intensified in recent months, with the two sides mutually targeting ships linked to one another.
