Taliban Urges Strict Enforcement of Orders in Culture and Arts Department

The Taliban administration has stressed the follow-up and strict implementation of orders and decrees issued to the relevant directorates at a leadership meeting of the Culture and Arts Department of the Ministry of Information and Culture. The meeting focused on administrative coordination, reviewing performance and planning future activities.

The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayyebi, deputy minister for culture and arts at the Taliban-run Ministry of Information and Culture, and attended by officials from the directorates of museums, archives, the conservatory, songs and music, historical monuments, archaeology and popular culture. According to Bakhtar News Agency, the meeting reviewed the working conditions of the directorates, the progress of affairs and cooperation among the relevant departments.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayyebi said at the meeting that the activities of the deputy ministry were progressing, in his words, “in a desirable manner,” but that the heads of the directorates should make greater efforts to achieve the set goals. He also emphasised responsibility, honesty and seriousness among employees in carrying out their duties.

According to the Taliban official, the group’s administrative system needs greater work and commitment from officials, and all departments should make use of existing capacities to advance cultural programmes. He described work in this structure as a “responsibility and trust” and called for greater cooperation among officials.

In another part of the meeting, emphasis was placed on implementing the rulings and decrees of the Taliban leadership, the prime minister’s office and the Ministry of Information and Culture. The relevant directorates were also asked to follow up on their activities in an orderly manner and provide accurate reports on their performance.

The Taliban-run Ministry of Information and Culture is one of the key bodies responsible for regulating cultural and artistic activities and preserving historical monuments in Afghanistan.
