Taliban detain two in Farah over more than 34 kg of opium

Local Taliban authorities in Farah have announced the arrest of two people in connection with the transfer of 34 kilograms and 400 grams of opium in the province.
According to a statement from the Taliban-run police command in Farah, the individuals were detained in the Ab Khorma area of Farah Rod district. The statement said the narcotics had been hidden in a Toyota Hilux and were to be transported from the area to another location.
The Taliban said the detainees, after initial investigation, had been handed over to judicial and legal authorities for further proceedings.
Farah province is located in western Afghanistan, and some of its routes, because of its border location and transit roads, have often been mentioned in reports related to drug smuggling.
