Iran Condemns US Attacks on Several Provinces
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the United States attacked several civilian areas and service infrastructure sites on Tuesday night in the provinces of Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman. According to the ministry, the strikes killed and wounded a number of civilians and caused damage to public and private property.
According to the statement, one of the attacks targeted a wedding ceremony in the Kuhshtak area of Sirik county in Hormozgan province, leaving more than 70 people dead and injured. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said most of the victims were women and children.
The ministry described the attacks as a violation of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and strongly condemned them. The statement also said some telecommunications towers and sites were damaged in the attacks.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also said its armed forces, in response to the incident, had targeted US military bases that, it said, were the source and support for the attacks. The statement also called on regional countries to prevent their territory and facilities from being used to carry out attacks against Iran.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also called on the United Nations, the Security Council and the UN secretary-general to take action in response to the incident. It warned that silence and inaction by international institutions could further weaken the UN’s standing.
Hormozgan is located in southern Iran along the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, and Sirik county is considered one of the eastern areas of the province. Under the UN Charter, the Security Council has the primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
