Putin Says Russia, Tajikistan in Close Coordination on Afghanistan

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow understands Dushanbe’s concerns over developments in Afghanistan and is in close contact and coordination with Tajikistan on the issue.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Bishkek. According to Putin, Afghanistan and other security-related issues are among the main areas of coordination between the two countries.

The Russian president also said relations between Moscow and Dushanbe are at the level of a strategic partnership and alliance. He added that cooperation between the two countries in the economic, humanitarian and security sectors is expanding.

Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, has in recent years hosted regional meetings on Central Asian security issues. Afghanistan has also remained a key focus for countries in the region, especially its northern neighbours.
