Qatar Warns Prolonged Strait of Hormuz Crisis Would Escalate Regional Tensions

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has warned that if the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz continues without a solution, it will intensify tensions in the region and be harmful to all parties.

Majed Al-Ansari said Doha is in consultations with Oman and Pakistan at the same time on steps related to easing tensions in the region. He added that Qatar is working with its partners to reach a peaceful solution and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman also warned against what he described as Israel’s exploitation of rising tensions in the region. According to him, Israel could use the situation to impose new conditions in the Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Syria.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the region’s key energy transit routes, and any tension there usually has broad political and economic consequences across the region and beyond.
