Serbian police free five foreign nationals abducted in Belgrade
Serbia’s Interior Ministry says two Afghan nationals and three Turkish nationals have been freed from kidnappers in Belgrade, and three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to Serbian media outlet Srpske, the operation was carried out on Sunday, Aug. 30, on the orders of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade. The body said the abduction took place on Aug. 26 on Gavrila Principa Street in Belgrade.
According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, the suspects abducted the five foreign nationals, including two Afghans and three Turks, and demanded 30,000 euros for their release. The ministry said the kidnapped people were taken by car to a rural house in the Vladimirci area.
In its statement, the Interior Ministry added that the five were “physically and psychologically abused” at the place where they were being held.
The detained individuals have been identified as S. P., 30, S. K., 43, and D. S., 29, all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 48-hour detention order has been issued for all three suspects, and they are expected to be brought before the relevant prosecutor along with the case file.
The Serbian Interior Ministry has not yet released further details about the health condition of the abducted nationals or the progress of the case in the prosecutor’s office. Belgrade is the capital of Serbia, and Vladimirci is located outside the city.
