Taliban Says It Held Talks With Qatar on Oil and Gas Investment

The Taliban administration’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said acting minister Mullah Hedayatullah Badri met in Kabul with Qatar’s ambassador, Dr. Mardouf Al-Qashouti, to discuss investment in Afghanistan’s mines and natural resources.

According to the ministry, the meeting examined investment opportunities in the mining sector, particularly oil and gas, and the two sides also shared their views on building a standard crude oil refinery.

The Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum also said the acting minister welcomed Qatar’s interest in these sectors and said he was ready to cooperate.

The news comes as the Taliban administration has repeatedly spoken in recent months about efforts to attract foreign investment in the natural resources sector. The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is one of the key bodies responsible for managing contracts and projects related to mines, oil and gas in Afghanistan.
