Reconstruction Projects at Herat’s Khwaja Abdullah Ansari Airport Progress Slowly

The reconstruction work on the runway at Herat’s Khwaja Abdullah Ansari Airport has progressed about 35 percent. Additionally, the renovation of the VIP parking area has been completed up to 60 percent, but repairs to other sections of the airport have only seen around 10 percent progress. Despite a significant budget allocation of 81 million Afghanis for these projects, the implementation pace remains slow, and expectations for improving conditions at Herat Airport have yet to be met. This limited progress comes as Herat Airport plays a crucial role in connecting Herat province to other parts of Afghanistan and neighboring countries. Improved services and adequate infrastructure could positively impact the region’s economic growth and air transportation. In recent years, the Taliban administration has also claimed to seek improvements in Afghanistan’s aviation infrastructure, but slow progress and the poor condition of some airports have raised concerns among citizens and transport activists.
