UK Updates Sanctions List with Corrected Passport Details for Five Taliban Officials

The UK Foreign Office announced on Friday, October 30, that it has updated the sanctions list for Taliban individuals by correcting identification details, particularly passport numbers. The five officials whose records were amended are Abdul Ghani Baradar, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Abdul Haq Wasiq, Khairullah Khairkhwa, and Abdul Latif Mansour.
In this update, at least one new passport number has been registered for each of the five individuals. Notably, Amir Khan Muttaqi received two new passport numbers, one of which was issued on August 5 this year and remains valid until 2031. In contrast, the passports of the other four officials expired in October.
The UK Foreign Office emphasized that these changes are purely administrative corrections and do not imply an increase in sanctions or a change in the sanction status of these individuals. Most of the amendments involve registering new passport numbers to replace expired documents.
According to previous reports, as of December 2024, at least 135 individuals and five organizations associated with the Taliban administration are subject to UN-imposed sanctions, which the UK enforces. These sanctions include asset freezes and global travel bans against the designated individuals.
