Kim Jong Un ignores Trump’s renewed outreach
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un gave no response to Donald Trump’s latest efforts to resume contact with him during a Politburo meeting of the ruling party.
According to RT Russia, citing Mehr News Agency, Kim used the meeting to stress “exceptional responsibility” and “extreme caution” in carrying out major government projects, but made no reference to the US president’s recent messages and expressions of interest.
The meeting had been held to review progress in implementing policies approved in 2026. The North Korean leader called for efforts to be doubled to address shortcomings, saying the goals set by the party’s Central Committee were not merely achievable figures, but important political missions to preserve the country’s dignity and demonstrate the superiority of its social system.
Meanwhile, North Korea’s state media have also remained silent on Trump’s recent efforts. Trump had previously said he wanted to resume contact with the North Korean leader this year.
On Tuesday, Trump again reposted his earlier message ordering a reduction in joint US-South Korea military drills. According to the source, he took the step as part of efforts to move closer to Pyongyang and ease North Korea’s dissatisfaction with Washington’s policies.
Trump also published images earlier this week from his past meetings with Kim Jong Un. Relations between Washington and Pyongyang have repeatedly swung between tension and dialogue in recent years.
