Razavi Khorasan Urges More Education and Health Aid for Migrants
The director general of foreign nationals and migrants affairs in Razavi Khorasan met with a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and called for more international aid to be channelled into sustainable education and health programmes for migrants and refugees.
At the meeting, Jafar Seyyadabadi said that, given economic constraints, education and healthcare are among the most important priorities in supporting foreign nationals. He stressed that such assistance should be directed toward long-term, infrastructure-based projects in these two sectors.
According to him, the large presence of migrant students in schools across Razavi Khorasan, especially in the outskirts of Mashhad, has increased the need to strengthen educational infrastructure, teaching equipment and health support for low-income families.
At the meeting, the UNHCR representative also said cooperation would continue and stressed the holding of specialist trilateral meetings to more accurately identify needs. He described the cooperation of the Razavi Khorasan Office of Foreign Nationals and Migrants Affairs in implementing field programmes as important.
The UNHCR representative, Batarai, also presented a report on some of the aid delivered, including the provision of 267 tablets for needy school and university students and the implementation of educational, cultural and support programmes.
At the end, both sides stressed the continuation of joint cooperation and the use of the capacities of executive bodies, international organisations and social partners to improve services for migrants and refugees. Razavi Khorasan is one of the main provinces hosting Afghan migrants in Iran, and the city of Mashhad is among the main centres of this population.
