Afghanistan Becomes Uzbekistan’s Third-Largest Export Market

Afghanistan became Uzbekistan’s third-largest export destination in the first half of 2026, a position that shows the Afghan market has gained greater importance among Tashkent’s trading partners.
According to the latest figures from Uzbekistan’s National Statistics Committee, the value of the country’s exports to Afghanistan reached $961.5 million in the first six months of this year. In the same list, Russia ranks first with about $2.4 billion and China second with nearly $1.4 billion.
The figures show that the volume of Uzbekistan’s exports to Afghanistan has now surpassed several other major markets for the country, including Kazakhstan, France and Turkey. With this shift, Afghanistan has become one of the key markets for goods produced in Uzbekistan.
Part of this increase is attributed to the expansion of economic ties between the two countries in recent years. Exports of electricity, food products, construction materials and industrial goods are among the sectors that have played a role in the growth of trade between the two sides.
Afghanistan also holds geographic importance for Uzbekistan, as it can serve as one of the transit routes linking Central Asia with South Asian markets. For this reason, the growth in trade between Kabul and Tashkent is not limited to the exchange of goods and is also tied to Afghanistan’s transit position.
