Suspected Poisoning in Dasht-e Barchi Enters Fourth Day

Suspected poisoning in Dasht-e Barchi in western Kabul has entered its fourth day and is continuing, as some local residents and social media users have spoken of the possibility that drinking water distributed by tankers may have been contaminated. However, the exact cause of the incident and any possible link to tanker water have not yet been independently and officially confirmed.

Shahpour Nabizada, a Facebook user, wrote that over the past three days hundreds of people, including a large number of children, had been taken to clinics with similar symptoms. Citing a local doctor, he also said that the amoeba parasite had been found in the initial examination of some patients.

According to reports published by Reza Heydari and Mehdi Bamiyani, several residents of Dasht-e Barchi have suffered poisoning, and medical teams in some areas, including Qala-e Now, have been stationed in local mosques to treat patients.

Meanwhile, Ali Sina Subhani, a social activist, issued a statement calling on people not to pay attention to rumours and unconfirmed reports. He said that, in coordination with the local community representative, the matter had been reported to the Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health, and a group of doctors had been sent to the area to examine patients.

According to him, after the medical team arrived at Shahid-e Malistan Mosque, a large number of residents came to the site to receive free medical services and medicine. He added that two ambulances were also present to transfer some people, especially the elderly, and that the medical team left the area after several hours.

Amoeba is among the parasites that can enter the body through contaminated water and food and can pose serious risks if timely medical care is not provided. Dasht-e Barchi is one of the densely populated areas in western Kabul and has repeatedly faced challenges with urban services and access to medical facilities in recent years.
