Haqqani Says Taliban Victory in Afghanistan Will Be Complete Only When Jerusalem Is Free

Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting interior minister of the Taliban administration, has said that the administration’s victory in Afghanistan will be “complete” only when the Palestinian people achieve victory and Jerusalem is liberated. He made the remarks at a ceremony in Kabul marking the fifth anniversary of the Taliban administration’s return to power.

According to Haqqani, the people of Afghanistan see their victory as “incomplete,” and their joy will not be complete until, as he put it, there is relief in Gaza and Jerusalem is freed. He also praised the resilience of the Palestinian people and said Afghanistan considers itself to share in their suffering and joy.

The Taliban administration’s acting interior minister also referred to the situation in Gaza, saying that what the area’s residents endure from “injustice and harassment” shames the human conscience. He added that merely condemning these events is not enough and prayed that the people of Gaza, too, may attain the “blessing of freedom.”

Taliban officials have previously also repeatedly voiced support for the Palestinian people and their resistance. Mullah Hassan Akhund, the Taliban administration’s acting prime minister, had earlier said in an Eid al-Fitr message that the pain and suffering of Palestinians cannot be forgotten.

Gaza in recent months has been at the centre of a broad reaction from governments and various groups in the region, and the Palestinian issue has been repeated in statements by Taliban officials as well.
