Over 140,000 Afghan Migrants Detained and Deported in Pakistan’s Punjab Province

The Foreigners’ Security Department of Pakistan’s Punjab Ministry of Interior has announced that so far, 140,468 Afghan migrants have been detained in the province and forcibly deported to Afghanistan.

According to the department’s bulletin, the process of detaining and deporting Afghan migrants continues, targeting those who do not possess legal residency documents.

This measure comes as thousands of Afghan families have sought refuge in Pakistan over recent years due to insecurity, economic crisis, and extensive social restrictions. They now face the risk of forced return and uncertain conditions in Afghanistan.

Punjab is one of Pakistan’s most populous regions and hosts a significant number of Afghan migrants. In recent months, the detention and deportation of undocumented migrants have also intensified in other provinces of Pakistan.
