New $30 Million Oil Refinery Begins Operations in Balkh Province

Local officials in Balkh Province have announced the construction and commencement of operations at an oil refinery built with an investment of $30 million. According to officials, this facility has the capacity to refine 600 tons of crude oil every 24 hours.

The refinery’s management stated that crude oil extracted from the Zemradsi, Angot, and Qashqari mines is processed at this plant and turned into diesel, petrol, and mazut after refining.

Technical engineers of the complex said the refinery was established to make effective use of the country’s natural resources and to meet domestic fuel needs. This development comes as Afghanistan faces significant energy challenges and heavy dependence on imported petroleum products.
