Pakistan Accuses Taliban Administration of Harboring Armed Groups Amid Rising Tensions
New tensions have escalated between Islamabad and the Taliban administration following claims about the discovery of weapons smuggled from Pakistan. Pakistani officials have accused the Taliban administration of providing shelter to armed groups and managing the black market for weapons.
Murtaza Solangi, spokesperson for the President of Pakistan, rejected the allegations made by the Taliban administration on Sunday via the Express network, stating that the Taliban themselves are among the main actors in arms trafficking in the region. He also accused the Taliban administration of drug trafficking and harboring terrorist groups.
Islamabad has declared that such accusations against Pakistan are attempts to divert the international community’s attention from the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan. Pakistani officials have urged the Taliban administration to prevent the use of Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan.
These tensions intensified after national television quoted Wahidullah Muhammadi, spokesperson for the 201 Khalid bin Walid Corps of the Taliban administration, reporting that 74 firearms, both light and heavy, were discovered in eastern Afghanistan. Muhammadi claimed these weapons were smuggled from Pakistan and intended for “sabotage activities.”
In an unprecedented statement, Solangi described the Taliban administration as “medieval beasts,” saying that the people of Afghanistan and the international community understand the true nature of the Taliban and that “their tyranny has no future.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Defense previously announced that more than seven billion dollars’ worth of military equipment remained in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of American forces. U.S. President Donald Trump valued this equipment at 85 billion dollars—assets that are now under the control of the Taliban administration.
