Over 1,500 Afghan Migrants Forced to Return in a Single Day Amid Growing Concerns
In the ongoing process of expelling and forcibly returning migrants, 307 families, totaling 1,537 individuals, have entered Afghanistan in just one day. This development has heightened concerns about increased pressure on the country’s limited resources and essential services.
Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban administration, announced in a statement on Sunday, August 9, that these families entered the country through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Silk Road, and Islam Qala border points.
According to him, 235 families comprising 1,235 individuals arrived via the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province, 25 families totaling 141 individuals through Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 39 families with 129 members through the Silk Road in Nimroz, and eight families including 32 persons via the Islam Qala border in Herat.
The large-scale return of migrants continues amid Afghanistan’s economic crisis, widespread unemployment, and limited access to basic services. Many returnees face severe livelihood challenges. International organizations have previously warned about the humanitarian consequences of this trend and emphasized the urgent need to support returning migrants.
