Pakistani Army Commander Killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operation
The Pakistani Army announced that during a security forces operation in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, eight individuals, including an army commander and seven militants, were killed.
According to the army statement, the operation took place on Saturday, and the clashes between security forces and armed individuals resulted in casualties on both sides following an exchange of fire. The army also stated that a quantity of weapons and ammunition was seized during the operation.
The Pakistani Army described the killed militants as “kharijites supported by India.” In recent months, the Pakistani government has referred to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Fitna al-Kharijites.”
This incident occurs amid a surge in attacks and clashes between Pakistani security forces and armed groups, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, in recent weeks. Pakistani officials have previously alleged that members of the TTP use Afghan soil to plan and carry out attacks—claims that the Taliban administration has denied, stating it will not allow Afghan territory to be used against any country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, located in northwest Pakistan, has been a major hotspot for militant group activities over the past years, with escalating insecurity in the region posing a serious challenge to the Islamabad government.
